Life is but a dream… ten years later!

Sharing is caring!

The Tallest Tallman and I just celebrated our ten year anniversary. We had our family over for dinner, with a surprise at the end. Here are a few highlights:

Cheers to Ten Years! www.theshortesttallman.comSo, the day started off with a GORGEOUS flower delivery!  The Tallest Tallman had this humungous arrangement delivered in the morning, as I was cleaning and preparing for the party. They are the same flowers that were in my bridal bouquet; couldn’t believe he remembered and thought to even do that! Here I was giving myself a gold star for doing the majority of the work for the party.

I wanted to dress things up a little more than just simple “dinner at our house.” So, I decided to have two tables set nicely, complete with centerpieces. I wanted to keep things simple and pretty, aka, cheap haha. So, dollar tree mason jars and baby’s breath! I paid a fortune for the baby’s breath (let’s not talk about the war), but I did achieve the look I desired. Later, I realized I could have borrowed some mason jars from my mil. Eh, at least it was only $4 I spent!

Also at the Dollar Tree, I purchased a few decorations to hang. This was tissue paper pom pom garland, which fit perfectly above our kitchen window. Saw something similar at Hobby Lobby- cost a lot more! (Made up for my ridiculously overpriced baby’s breath! Ugh.) I also had a couple single pom poms that were huge that I hung up in another doorway. I would have been probably at least $15 at Hobby Lobby if I bought them there!

So, like, super cute, right?!?

Here is the second table, which actually never got used because the weather ended up being lovely, so half of our guests just ate on our patio table. I did buy our paper plates (which were expensive but I really liked them) and the burlap runners at Hobby Lobby. The runners weren’t really runners; they were really just fancier, light colored braided burlap 6″ ribbon, I guess. Most importantly, found just these 2 strips of burlap in the clearance section, for less than the burlap “table runner,” which was simple, straight up burlap. Not sure what I’ll do with it; I could make a wreath with it, or save it for the table runner purpose again!

Our anniversary cake, in duplicate style to our wedding cake, from the Florentine Pastry Shop! Quite delicious, as well. We even used our wedding cake topper!

Our honeymoon was at DisneyWorld, hence Mickey and Minnie.

The menu included a salad that I made, two types of pasta (delivered from Charlie’s Pizza), and watermelon slices. The dressing was a huge hit- from Aldi’s! So glad I decided to get the pasta catered- we a ton leftover, it was quite delicious, and it made the party a breeze to prepare for. Sure, it cost more, but it saved my sanity.

This was also an excellent choice- lemonade with frozen raspberries. I didn’t own my own beverage dispenser, so I used the party as an opportunity to make this investment, and I ended up choosing the 2 gallon mason jar dispenser from Pier 1. Worked great, and it matched my simple centerpieces. For the lemonade, I simply bought 2 gallons of Simply Lemonade and poured ’em in, then added a package of frozen raspberries. Was a huge hit! I added a little water to mine, because straight up lemonade is usually a bit too powerful for me. It was perfection. Wish I still had some!

Oh, yeah, the hair- I was going to get my hair braided at a salon, but decided it was silly to spend money. So, instead I did my own. I made a side braid that I pulled into a bun, and stuck in the crystal floral picks I wore on my wedding day! Sure, it was a bit overdressed, but #yolo, right???

The big surprise at the end was that we invited our family to a fun day in Boston in the fall! Boston, in our opinion, is pretty great any time of year, but certainly the drive along I-90, through the Berkshires, will be quite lovely in autumn. We can’t wait to have a little vacation in our favorite city with our favorite people!
