Beauty Faves for Shine Control

Sharing is caring!

Argghh. Unfortunately, something in my genetic makeup means I have to deal with an oily T-zone (I’m thinking it’s the 50% Italian part). Drives me nuts, and I’ve tried different things over the years to try to deal. I am excited to share with you my new favorite products that seem to do a pretty excellent job combatting all that oil and shine!!!

www.theshortesttallman.comMight I also add that they’re not all super expensive??? As a matter fact, the piece de resistance of them all is less than $5!

FIRST, wash your face, apply toner, and your moisturizer/serum. Next, apply:

First Aid Beauty Skin Rescue Oil-Free Mattifying Gel (app. $30)

I found this product at Sephora, when I walked in and asked a staff member for a solution to my problem. She pointed me straight to this, and so far I love it! A little goes a long way, and it is supposed to help long-term. My skin feels great after I’ve put it on, and makeup easily goes over it. However- it isn’t a miracle worker. It does a fine job reducing shine, but apparently my shine is something to be reckoned with, because on its own, this mattifying gel delays the inevitable by a few hours. Which is still a feat!

Let this dry, then use:

Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation (app. $5)

I discovered this foundation on Pinterest, when I search for drugstore shine control foundation. I read lots of good reviews, and I have to say that this delivers on everything it says it does: it comes out like a light fluffy mousse; it provides good coverage, but isn’t heavy; it blends in nicely; and it makes my skin feel soft! This foundation is  the major player of the bunch, but I think that using the mattifying gel and a setting powder is what makes it last the whole day through, shine free. My skin literally looks better and healthier when I wear this foundation!

I used to use bare minerals, both their original foundation and the Complexion Rescue Tinted Hydrating Gel foundation. I like them both, but they don’t do as good of a job. The Complexion Rescue feels nice going on, but ends up looking gross towards the end of the day; and although the coverage of the Original Foundation is decent for a powder, it doesn’t have the coverage (and therefore flawless skin look!) as the cheap Rimmel does! I actually ended up picking it up at Walmart for less than $5!

Lastly, finish with a powder to set everything in place:

BareMinerals Finishing Powder Illuminating Mineral Veil (app. $15… but I paid way more at Sephora. I’m wondering if this particular one is a smaller size.)

I really love the Bare Minerals Mineral Veil. I tried to cheap out on it once before, and replaced it with a drugstore-grade product, and I came to realize that although Bare Minerals Original Foundation is nice, the Mineral Veil is sort of what makes it. This loose powder is super fine, and I have both the regular and the Illuminating finish. I really like them both. I’ve been really into the glow-y look lately, and I think the Illuminating Mineral Veil gives a subtle, natural glow without looking sparkly. The Mineral Veil sets your makeup for the day, and along with the other two products, my shine issue is totally at bay, all day!

Now, one thing I’ve learned through my thorough Pinterest research ;-), is that makeup is all well and good, but you have to make sure you take care of your skin properly. Applying the right kind of moisturizer that matches you skin is important, as well as regular exfoliation. And, of course, sunscreen.

One beauty product conundrum I do have is that I haven’t found a concealer I love. Any suggestions?? As I’m on the SAHM budget, looks like I’ll be trying to find another drugstore hack. Hope I find something as life-changing as the Rimmel Stay Matte Foundation that I’m now obsessed with!

With September wrapping up, will you be joining me in my little e-book club?
