12 Ways to Decompress this Fall

Sharing is caring!

Hi guys. Is it just me, or is this fall shaping up to be a fierce competitor to the busyness of December?! That’s why I haven’t tended to my blog in a while! I feel like I have stuff going on every weekend and every week night. I guess it comes with the territory of 3 kids that are getting older (who knew that babies were the easy ones?!). Here are some tips I came up with to battle stress during this season:

  • Drink tea; it’s calm in a cup.
  • Make your own pumpkin spice latte, a la my friend, Andrea!

1 cup coffee
1 cup milk
1-2T maple syrup
1tsp pumpkin pie spice

Heat milk till almost boiling. Add maple syrup

Mix coffee, heated milk, maple syrup and pumpkin pie spice in blender about 30 seconds. Enjoy!

(And check out her website http://obrienwellness.com for more holistic-y awesomeness!)

  • Try out Essential oils for aromatherapy. Even just a lotion with lavender can help! I have a great hand lotion from Crabtree & Evelyn that has lavender and smells awesome.
  • Take some art photos, play around with filters. Yeah, it’s getting cold, but you might as well embrace it and enjoy the show of natures dramatic transition to winter. Put on a damn headband or hat and get out there already!
  • Buy a magazine at checkout. My favorite is Real Simple– their articles are all about simplifying all parts of your life. Family Circle is 1.99, and it’s somewhat similar to real simple, so that’s a great cheaper option. For me, that little treat at checkout helps!
  • Play around on Shutterfly: make some ornaments, mugs, calendars as gifts, etc. Order your Christmas cards now, they are always having crazy coupons and deals. BUT rather than make yourself crazy, when you catch a good deal, just snag it and don’t go nuts checking back to get the absolute best price. That extra $5 save, although will be sweet, comes at what cost when you obsess over your email waiting out an even better deal?? (Clearly, I know from experience.)
  • Hands Free Mama dot com. You are so sick to me bringing her up, but serrrrrrriously tho! She’s so inspiring.
  • Finalize your holiday gift list, so you can at least check your list off your list. Choose gifts that are practical, meaningful, within your budget, and from a vendor that you enjoy supporting. If you have an obsession with buying online, try Etsy if you haven’t already.
  • If house cleaning is starting to overwhelm you, and hiring a housekeeper is out of the picture, review your cleaning plan. I have to do this periodically. www.theshortesttallman.comHere’s what I’ve been using recently; something about having a short list for each day is a little comforting,  because even if I get off, it seems more manageable to get myself back in order. With that being said, choose life over cleaning. Unless you belong on hoarding: buried alive, it probably isn’t that bad anyway.
  • Do something charitable within your means, or plan something for the near future. The November issue of Real Simple featured a couple of articles about gratitude and charitable giving-without expectations- (found only in the print issue), which go hand in hand.
  • Try some Lularoe leggings. (I know, another MLM! Gag me already!) But no joke these are as great as they say, so super duper comfy. I don’t sell them, so you can trust me! There is a reason why people call them “butter leggings.” I get mine from this Facebook group.
  • The ultimate destresser? Take a walk. Music or no music. Long or short. Alone or with others. Breathe in and out and try to walk off that feeling of stress that’s been building up. If you imagine yourself walking your stress away, it will. Even if it’s just to take the edge off, because that’s really all you need. It’s all about hopping off the hamster wheel just long enough to feel like you can do it!!!

(And remember, you can do anything for ten seconds.  #unbreakable #molewomen #titusismyalterego)

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed?

(Seriously, I’d love to know. As a sweat-er of the small stuff, please share. lol)
