Desire Mapping (January 14)

Sharing is caring!

How do you want to feel?

I’m working on my Desire Map. What on earth is that, you might ask? It’s a different take on New Year’s Resolutions by Danielle LaPorte, a book you will find in the Self-Help section of Barnes & Noble. The subtitle of The Desire Map states, “A Guide To Creating Goals With Soul,” and on the back it says “How do you want to feel?” Including a theory section and a workbook section, this book has been quite a read for me. I’m not finished yet, I’m still working on my desire mapping, but it has given me a whole different approach to goal-setting. The idea is that you focus on how you want to feel, and you set goals around that. Hmph. It’s actually really hard to do that! It’s been an enjoyable book, though. Our world is so rushed, and if we really focused on doing and having and seeking what brings you joy, many of us would probably live pretty different than we do. I mean, I’m quite happy with my life, but I still continue to weed out what doesn’t serve me, as much as I can.

One of the things that brings me joy is something to look forward to. And Tallest Tallman and I booked an overnight in our fave city, just the two of us! I am so looking forward to using a short get-out-of-jail-free card, especially in this bleak midwinter. It gives me something to smile about when I feel so cooped up, cold, and bored. Routines get so routine-y this time of year. This type of an adventure is just what the doctor ordered, and will be bringing me joy before, during, and after in the memories that will be made.

How are you doing with your resolutions? We’re halfway through the first month of the year already. I’m doing ok… I think I’ve earned a solid B. Need to kick up the water intake even more. I have been writing every day, so that’s been good (when I don’t post something, it’s because I’ve spent time on longer posts!). Meditation, yoga, and gratitude practice… well, that could be upped. I’m still pretty haphazard with that. I guess what I’m saying is, I need to be more intentional with my intentions.

2018 is going to be a fabulous year, though. I’m subscribing to living joyfully, doing so unabashedly, and allowing my cup to overflow so I can serve others. Good vibes only, peeps! If you’re having a rough time feeling that (Lord knows I’ve been there), start seeking that shit out. It’ll probably come to you ten-fold once you start. Like the New York State motto, Excelsior! Ever upward! (Like the taxes in NYS, ever upward! ??)
